Enemy Of Boredom Academy Newsletter October 2024
Welcome everyone to the October ’24 edition of the Enemy of Boredom newsletter. The Music Course is coming! There’s an air of anticipation and positive energy with a new school year. I’m happy to report back that our students are buzzing with it too.
Broadcasting
Whether it’s the latest League of Legends tournament or Street Fighter 5 competition, Broadcasters are in charge of capturing these live events for a global audience.
Coder
Coders, also known as programmers, write the code that brings a video game to life. They work closely with producers and other departments to translate the project's artistic vision into software script to create a fully functioning game.
3D modeler
3D Modelers, or 3D modeling artists, design 3D models withing a game engine, from concept to finalised character.
Production crew
A production crew is a group of people, hired or employed internally by a games publisher to produce a game.
Coach
It’s a Coach’s job to train and help a gaming team so they can compete against other teams at tournaments and competitions and win.
Professional gamer
A professional gamer, or pro gamer, plays video games full time and plays in competitions or tournaments to win prize money.
PR / marketing executive
It’s the priority for PR/Marketing Executives to maintain and promote positive coverage of a game studio or publisher in publications, online, and through influencers in order to grow the company’s reputation.
Business management
A Business Manager is responsible for a team who together implement strategies that generates revenue or profit for a game studio or publisher.
Sales / partnership manager
Sales/Partnership Manager are the people in charge of improving the sales of games and turning profit through securing partnership deals and sponsorships.
Game Analyst
A Game Data Analyst looks at upcoming game releases and analyses what impact they likely will have, how well they will be received, and how well they will sell.
Video game system designer
From how NPCs interact with the world and the playable character’s hair grows the more time passes in-game, to levelling up and scoring systems, these are the mechanics Game System Designers work out.
QA Game tester
QA Game testers test video games in their early stages to check how good the user experience is, what works and doesn’t, and if there are any bugs to report and fix.
Game PR & marketing
A Games PR & Marketer, also known as Games Marketing Executive or Marketing Coordinator, focuses on selling the published game and making it appealing to players through adverts and marketing campaigns.
Game artist
A Game Artist is usually a cross between an animator and a 3D modeler as their role involves creating 2D and 3D art for video games.
Creative game director
As a game developing stage starts, it’s up to the Video Game Creative Director (aka Lead Artist) to sit with developers to decide on the direction the project will take.
Game designer
Video Game Designers design games. It’s that simple! They take game ideas from their concepts and develop them into playable and enjoyable experiences for gamers.
Game audio engineer
It’s easy to overlook sound design in games as we’re drawn to the visuals. But sound can easily make or break a game. That’s where the Game Audio/Sound Engineer comes in as they’re focused on delivering authentic and real sounds that enhance the gaming experience for players.
Game Animator
Game Animators are specialists in bringing visuals and game characters to life!
