We are based in Eastcheap House which is just at the entrance to the Garden Square Shopping Centre. All of our Games Design courses are on the 2nd floor, which is a bright, open-plan space designed for learners to flourish in a relaxed environment. Our Music Performance and Business Start-Up courses are held on the 1st floor, where our learners can explore the exciting world of music in a darker, more atmospheric space, taking influence from live music venues and rehearsal spaces. On the same floor, our Business courses are delivered in a bright, sunny room, designed to be inspiring to encourage learners’ confidence with business ideas. We also have something incredibly unique; two flight simulators… the ultimate sensory room!
3D printer for Games Design students to print their assets and as mentioned above, two immersive flight simulators where our young people can fly through space, shoot lasers, OR land an Airbus at night!
Overall we want to remove as much anxiety as possible for our learners. Upstairs in our Games Design area, we went for more of a Game Development office space feel, rather than an education environment which they may have been used to previously. It works!
For the students, its the best place for them to personally develop. To be around like-minded peers and discuss a whole range of topics specific to the course but also, to have fun! Our aim is to help our students reach their full potential with a bespoke approach to learning, but also for them to become more confident individuals with a can-do attitude, with an increased feeling of self-worth and wellbeing.
It’s right in the middle of Letchworth in a busy shopping centre, a short walk from a variety of shops. The train station is a approximately 3-5 minute walk away. Taxis tend to drop off and pick up just outside, or near Sainsburys. Letchworth itself is quite a calm town with plenty of green spaces to relax in too.
Our learners tend to keep the local bakeries in business however if someone wanted to bring in a pack-lunch, then they can use one of our fridges and relax in our centre during lunchtimes.
My EOB experience has been overwhelmingly positive and accommodating. My complex mental and physical needs have been met and every step has been taken to make sure I am comfortable. Everyone is very understanding of not just my needs, but the needs of everyone else in the class as well. The teachers are friendly and approachable, I know I can go to them for help both with lessons as well as personal problems. The course has been very easy to follow as the instructions are given in a very clear and understandable way. I feel I am really able to develop my skills in both coding and socialisation, as the environment is very welcoming and allows you to come out of your shell. Both the creative side and coding side of the course are equally enjoyable and being able to combine those skills to make games is extremely satisfying. Completing each step of the course has been a positive experience and I look forward to continuing my education at EOB.
